SOUTH COUNTY KITCHEN

Community Commercial Kitchen Project

About Us:

FOOD. COMMUNITY. Food is a "Love language" for most people, essential to life and wellbeing. Some of us express love and caring by growing and making food and sharing it. And we connect with one another over the shared breaking of bread, across diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and languages. Local food events like Apple Pie Jamboree, Cherries Jubilee, Salmon Bake, and Whole Hog BBQ bring people together to celebrate and give to local causes. Food builds community.

So why a community commercial kitchen in Pateros? Local farmers and home food producers need a USDA certified commercial kitchen to process and sell their goods. A shared kitchen keeps startup costs and overhead low and helps get their food businesses off the ground. Job creation, skills training, nutrition education, access to local food by local people.

Ultimately, a Co-op....About You.

To help us get started, PBCRC received a Rural Business Development Grant through USDA for a Community Commercial Kitchen! The grant will allow us to put in the infrastructure and basic equipment with online and on site retail space. Having a local USDA-certified Commercial Kitchen available for use will give food producers the opportunity to commercially make and sell their products and jump start their businesses. The Kitchen would be available for classes, training, education, and more.
